Following her stunning performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto last March, Anna-Liisa Bezrodny returns with her husband, cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson in the Brahms Double Concerto.
If you are a fan of the Voice Project and their wonderful and surprising choral theatre events you may be interested in The Distance Between Us, which will be performed on Saturday 28 January 2023 at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich, at 6pm and 8pm.
If you have never experienced one of their performances then it is even more important that you do not miss this one!
Devised and directed by Jon Baker and Sian Croose, and including music from the Voice Project award-winning film of the same name, it features haunting and evocative original music by Jon Baker, Sian Croose and Orlando Gough on themes of separation and connection across time and space.
The massed voices of The Voice Project Choir will be woven together with vocal soloists Jeremy Avis, Lisa Cassidy and Sharon Durant, the multi-instrumentalist Adrian Lever, flautist Rowland Sutherland and percussionist Owen Gunnell. The programme contains original settings of work by Emily Dickinson, Esther Morgan, Edwin Morgan and Tennyson.
This inventive new piece of choral theatre will bring to life the wonderful spaces and varied acoustic qualities of St Andrews Hall and its environment, enhanced by atmospheric lighting designed by Dhugal Harrison. Expect the unexpected!

Do join us for our first concert of the year this coming Saturday 7 January at 7.30pm, to hear violinist Maria Włoszczowska and pianist Katya Apekisheva in a programme of Schubert, Webern, Debussy, Szymanowski and Prokofiev. Polish violinist Maria Włoszczowska is recognised for her outstanding and versatile musicianship, performing as soloist, director/concertmaster and chamber musician. She gave her debut recital at the Wigmore Hall in 2016 and appeared there last season in both recital and chamber music concerts. Renowned pianist Katya Apekisheva is a familiar face to NCM concertgoers and we are delighted to welcome her back to the John Innes Centre this weekend.

Isata Kanneh-Mason is the eldest of the famous Kanneh-Mason family, and an award winning musician in her own right.
For this special concert in Norwich, Isata will be joined by the dynamic Fantasia Orchestra, and their conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh (‘A spark to watch’, BBC Radio 3). With a recent concert described by The Arts Desk as ‘the most directly emotional music to be experienced live post-lockdown’, the programme features the Brahms Hungarian Dances 1 & 6, Dohnányi’s Variations on a Nursery Tune and Dvořák’s Symphony no. 9 ‘From the New World’ – promising that this will be a special concert.
Isata is the recipient of the 2021 Leonard Bernstein Award, a 2020 Opus Klassik award for best young artist, and, as a member of the Kanneh-Mason family, the 2021 best classical artist at the Global Awards. During the 21/22 season Isata has been one of the European Concert Hall Organisation’s Rising Stars, playing at some of the continent’s most illustrious concert venues.
St Peter Mancroft church is a beautiful setting, and with a capacity of only 500, the concert is likely to sell out quickly so please book soon.
The Academy of St Thomas welcomes back two of its favourite performers: cellist Alexander Baillie and conductor Benjamin Pope.
International soloist Alexander Baillie will perform Dvorak’s magnificent Cello Concerto in B minor. Once described as “Britain’s best-kept secret”, he is one of the finest cellists of his generation and was inspired by the late Jacqueline du Pré.
The concert will finish with Brahms’ Second Symphony – with its mellow opening leading to a joyful conclusion.
