UEA Choir is looking for new members. If you are a keen singer and are interested in joining UEA’s flourishing Choir, please come along and audition.

Auditions are five minutes in duration, open to all and free to attend.

UEA Chamber Choir has some vacancies for new members. If you are a keen singer, and are keen to explore various periods of choral music, please come along and audition. Please note that some vocal training and/or choral experience is essential, as well as the ability to read music.

Auditions are ten minutes in duration, open to all and free to attend. During your audition, you will be asked to present one short pre-prepared piece (of your choice) and to complete a short sight-reading exercise.

And at The Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre in Cley-next-the Sea, String Fillies are running a workshop followed by a concert. 

Saturday 6 May
String Fillies Song-writing Workshop 2-4pm : with harpist and musician Xenia Horne and friends. £16.50 some concessions

String Fillies Concert 7.30pm : Norfolk Wildlife Trust
A special musical performance combining traditional music making with tunes and songs from the Gaelic and Celtic traditions and influences from Russia and Georgia.  A magical combination of concert harp, cello, violin and voices with music specifically chosen to connect to the marshes and life in North Norfolk.  Doors open 6.30pm with licensed bar and light meals, performance 7.30pm.

Sunday 7 MayConfluence project: Drawing inspiration from the waterways, marshes and coastlines of the artists’ East Anglia homes.  This is a visual and auditory in-the-moment experience to communicate and reflect the natural world using piano improvisation and multi-media visual arts. Featuring pianist Adrian Lever and Martin Laurance with back-lit projected works by the artists Bill Vine, Sarah Cannell, and Alison Harvey.  Doors open 6.30pm with licensed bar and light meals, performance 7.30pm.

Auditions for UEA Choir and Orchestra

On Friday 30 September and Monday 3 October, UEA Choir, Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra will be holding auditions for new members, in the UEA Music Centre. All ensembles rehearse weekly and are open, by audition, to all (staff, students and members of the community).

UEA Choir (directed by UEA Choir Director, Tom Primrose) welcomes singers of all abilities and levels of experience, UEAChamber Choir (directed by UEA Director of Music, Stuart Dunlop) welcomes singers with some vocal training and/or choral experience and UEA Symphony Orchestra (directed by Stuart Dunlop) welcomes players of Grade 7 standard or above (it is the standard that is important – you don’t need to have passed any exams). If you are a keen singer or orchestral player, please email musicevents@uea.ac.ukto arrange an audition.

Open Voices – Men’s Voices
20/27 Jan + 03/10 Feb – 19:30 – 21:30

Course Leader: Jon Baker
This four-week course offers an opportunity to sing and learn more about the voice. We will explore many different styles of vocal music, sing in unison and simple harmony, work on breathing and use exercises which help to develop range, tone and confidence. The course is suitable for those who are new to singing as well as those with more experience.

Open Voices – Tuning In
21/28 Jan + 04/11 Feb – 10:30am – 12:30pm
Inner Space, St. Benedict’s, Norwich
Course Leader: Sian Croose
These sessions look at the connections between singing and mindfulness,  joining up voice, mind and body. Simple meditation techniques, vocal warm ups and a close look at how to build musical confidence and make more of a connection with your singing voice – exploring melody, harmony and rhythm though a range of inspiring songs and improvisations.

Open Voices – Singing from Scratch
20/27 Jan + 03/10 Feb – 19:30 – 21:30
The Friends Meeting House, Norwich
Course Leader: Sian Croose
Open to all – four weeks of singing – melodies, harmonies and rhythms of the world. Great for beginners or experienced singers who want to sing a range of uplifting vocal music, taught expertly from scratch.
