Concerts at The Chapel, Park Lane, Norwich 22/23 July 2017

This coming weekend there could hardly be a greater contrast between concerts on consecutive days – a Saturday evening cabaret style concert given by the ever popular PENELOPE TURNER with ANDREW WISE in their highly entertaining review of Kurt Weill numbers, this year titled Weill at Sea.

The following day at 6.30pm we have the subtle and delicate sounds of the lute when the brilliant LYNDA SAYCE gives a programme of music by John Dowland and his English contemporaries. I hope that one of these evenings – perhaps both? – will tempt you to Park Lane. All the best, Roger

Sistema in Norwich Summer Concerts 14/15th July at Octagon Chapel 7pm

This week is one of the rare opportunities to see the growing number of Sistema orchestras playing in Norwich. There are now 4, as the older children, some of whom have been on the programme for 6 or 7 years have formed the new Colegate orchestra and have been coached by new musical director Juan Gabriel Rojas who has come to Norwich from Venezuela via Portugal and Belgium to direct the programme and orchestras in Norwich bringing valuable experience and orchestral knowledge with him, as well as his partner Firdevs Eke who is also a pianist and composer – we are very privileged to have them here.

The other orchestras, Sarah Glover and Harriet Martineau take the middle age and experience groups and the newest orchestra, Thomas Browne orchestra is only a few months old.

Space  in the Saturday concerts is limited but Juan Gabriel, Marcus Patteson and the whole Sistema team would love to see you on Friday night, tickets from www.sistemanorwich.org.uk

About Handel’s Susanna
The Yorke Trust presents a staged production of Handel’s superb work Susanna, to be performed in St Mary’s Church, South Creake on 14 and 15 July 2017 at 7.1Spm.

This is an exciting new collaboration between local choristers and student musicians with musical direction by Alexander Crowe and Laoise O’Brien. This dramatic tale of lust and corruption is vividly conveyed in Handel’s score. The story tells of the attempted rape of a young woman by two Elders of thec ommunity. Susanna is condemned for her apparent sin, but the day is saved by the young judge Daniel who in an ingenious process of cross questioning, manages to trick the elders into revealing the truth of their crime.

Directed by Jennifer Hamilton, the work will be accompanied in a special arrangement for keyboard, continuo and solo instruments.
