Matthew Wadsworth lute and theorbo

International and renowned lutenist Matthew Wadsworth will play pieces by Dowland, Johnson and Kapsberger from his new album ‘Late Night Lute’, as well as a fantastic new theorbo piece written especially for him by Stephen Goss.

Matthew enjoys playing for intimate audiences in non-concert hall venues – although he has played in many large halls to huge crowds across the globe to great critical acclaim.

In Norwich, he is choosing a ‘pay-what-you-think-on the-night’ approach to ticketing as he hopes that the audience will enjoy the music enough to pay a fair price without putting off people who are not so sure about what they like in musical terms, or want to try something different.

He is planning a number of concerts in new and unusual venues – the Octagon Chapel is well-known as a music venue but rarely will you have had the chance to listen to a lute played in a building matched to its age with such exceptional skill.

“You get the feeling that he’s playing for himself and for you, but not for a big public. Gestures are subtle, with an expressive range which flatters sophisticated ears… perhaps because he always plays from the heart, there’s an inner power and sincerity to his performances which make for compelling listening.”

Simon Heighes, International Record Review
