Norfolk Music Library Loan service fundraiser

Norfolk Music Library Friends – piano playing marathon

The Norfolk Music Library Friends has been formed to preserve access to the music sets held by the Norfolk Music Library.

One of the Friends’ aims is to be instrumental in raising funds to keep the music sets library viable, at least for the first year of our existence. We’re getting the ball rolling with a 24 hour piano playing marathon later this month.  We invite anyone, young or old and of any standard, to join in and be a part of this unique event.

The event takes place from 12:00 noon on Friday 18th November through to 12:00 noon on Saturday 19th June. We are delighted that St Peter Mancroft church, in the centre of Norwich, has kindly agree to make the Church available for the whole day and night.

We’ve broken up the time into time slots, which are filling up nicely, but we could do with a few more pianists, of any and every standard. In particular, age will be no barrier – we have special arrangements for the younger players. It’s not intended as a ‘performance’, it’s more of a fun fund-raising event!

All we ask is that every participant raises a small amount of sponsorship money – perhaps up to £5.00 for young participants and somewhat more for adults. There will also be Norfolk Music Library Friends in the Church with a collecting bucket.

For young participants, we have reserved 4.00 – 6.00 pm on Friday November 18th and 9.00 – 11.00 on Saturday November 19th for short performances of no more than ten minutes.  Daytime slots for adults will be by the quarter hour, but you can book multiple slots to embrace a wider programme or a major work. Night time slots will be by the half hour. However,  anyone is welcome to book multiple slots to display both your ability and powers of endurance!

So if you, or anyone you know, perhaps within your music group or society, wants to play in a wonderful place and raise money to keep amateur music making alive in Norfolk , please get in touch.

Please make your booking by calling St George’s Music Shop in Norwich on St George’s Music Shop on 01603 626414 or by delivering the form to St George’s Music Shop, 17-19 St Georges St, Norwich NR3 1AB. Alternatively, you can reply to this e-mail and we will pass it on.

Thank you for your show of support so far, we look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes
