An Italian in Paris
Private music with an Italian flavour, for Louis XIV

Couperin, Lully, Jacquet de la Guerre, Rebel, Clérambault, Duval, Bartolotti, Charpentier

A summer concert of instrumental music presents a fascinating programme exploring the way French composers started to experiment in the Italian style under the influence of Corelli. The formal, rational French style pioneered by Lully was replaced by the more emotional Italian manner.

This programme includes what is claimed to be the very first French Sonata, composed by Charpentier for eight instruments.

You can also discover Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, who had quite a reputation in her lifetime, as a woman composer and harpsichord player, and you will see that this was well deserved.

Do not miss this uplifting concert, warm sounds and catchy rhythms uniting to create a perfect summer entertainment, with drinks in the Octagon garden at the interval.
